What Is Hybrid Flooring?

Hybrid flooring is a product that combines the top layers of vinyl plank with a rigid core, the most popular being a Stone Polymer Composite (SPC) and a cushion backing. This structure creates a perfectly blended multi layered product that is a great flooring solution for any room in the home, particularly if the residence or commercial premises has a particle board, ply or yellow tongue substrate.

SPC, which stands for Stone Plastic (or Polymer) Composite Hybrid (or Rigid Core Vinyl Plank) Flooring, features a core that is typically comprised of at least around 60% calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and plasticizers. The finished plank has multiple layers, and include a high performance embossed PVC wear layer with protective Polyurethane (to assist with providing easy maintenance), a realistic High Resolution Image (or Print Layer to provide realistic Timber images for example), then the High Density Rigid Core Polymer, a Balancing Layer and finally a High Density Acoustic layer. An alternative Hybrid, WPC, constructed with a core made from recycled wood and PVC is also available and while being slightly softer and more quiet underfoot, the more popular SPC is generally regarded as being more durable and dense, due to it’s limestone composition.

Hybrid floors create minimal noise when walked on and the surface is completely waterproof, as is all our hybrid and Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. There is a huge range of colours, styles, and sizes available, to enable you to select one that perfectly matches your vision.

Our range is guaranteed for up to 25-years so you can rest assured you’re getting the best quality flooring around

Why Choose Hybrid Flooring?

One of the main benefits of hybrid flooring is that it is stain resistant, resilient, and very comfortable to walk on, due to the acoustic backing of the planks. It is well known that this acoustic backing provides the benefit of noise reduction, which is often popular with parents of young families.

As well as being hard wearing, hybrid flooring is also comparatively inexpensive to install, when compared to timber floors. There can be a cost saving for floor preparation, where your substrate may be particle board, ply or yellow tongue. The polyurethane finish assists to make maintenance a breeze.

What are the main benefits of a Hybrid Floor?

Hybrid floors don’t just look great. As a cost-effective, easy to manage flooring solution that looks and feels amazing, there are a lot of benefits to choosing this innovative solution for your home. Here are just a few of them.

With a surface similar to Luxury Vinyl Planks, Hybrid or Rigid Core products are also very tough and are built to last. Our suppliers provide residential warranties between 15 and 25 years, so the expectation is that you will not need to replace your floor for a significant length of time.

While these planks are tough and hard wearing, they are quiet and very comfortable to walk on, due to that acoustic backing underlay.

Hybrid flooring also takes care of your hip pocket, because it’s much cheaper than a traditional timber floor. It’s also cheaper than carpet, so you get an extremely durable, easy-to-maintain floor at a lower price. However, it’s not just buying the flooring where you’ll save money. Because it’s so easy to install, you can cut down on labour costs and install it yourself.

Another advantage that hybrid flooring has over traditional timber floors is the range of styles on offer. Of course, natural timber only comes in so many different colours. With hybrid flooring, however, you have a wide range of options. From different colours to various patterns, you can find hybrid flooring to suit any style.

If you want a nice easy lifestyle that doesn’t revolve around constantly cleaning your floors, you’re going to love hybrid flooring. It’s stain-resistant and provides a waterproof surface, so those spills won’t soak in and damage the floor covering like it could with Carpet. Simply wipe away the spill, and your floor looks as good as new. Similarly, to Luxury Vinyl Planks, your ongoing maintenance includes just a vacuum, and damp mop, using a ph neutral cleaner.

Hybrids are easy to install. If you’re even mildly handy around the house, you’ll be able to easily install hybrid flooring yourself. Hybrid is also ideal for installing over Particle board, ply and yellow tongue. Providing your substrate is clean, flat, smooth and level, you can install directly to it, with very little subfloor preparation.

If you love a DIY project or you’re just looking to keep your building or renovations costs down, you’ll find hybrid flooring to be a breath of fresh air.

It’s amazing how you can transform an area of your house with new flooring, and our range of hybrid products is a great place to start. We’re sure to supply a colour and style that you’ll love.

Frequently asked questions

Like hardwood, hybrid floors have the look of timber. But they are waterproof, which hardwood floors are not. Hybrid floors are also more affordable and durable than hardwood floors.

Most flooring solutions give off a hollow sound when you walk on them. Hybrid flooring solutions, on the other hand, have a rigid core, which gets rid of the following sound. But, they do make a solid sound.

It depends on what brand of hybrid floor you’re installing. If you install a more affordable option, it is less likely to look like natural timber because the top printed layer of the flooring tiles will repeat the same pattern.

While you can place heavy furniture on hybrid flooring, it’s best to avoid dragging or pushing them across the floor. If the furniture must be moved, always use a soft cloth like a towel or mat to protect the flooring from scratches and gouges.
